It all started with this green plastic IKEA chair. It shows clear signs of stress fatigue, and witnesses say it was already broken when Ikea used it for their restaurant customers. The broken chair collapsed throwing a disabled boy to the floor causing him a concussion. Evan after spending a day in the hospital emergency room, he somehow remained a fan of Ikea.
Doctors wanted the victim to see a back specialist, but his healthcare plan was lacking. This is because he is terminally ill with a cancer-like disease. Ikea claimed no responsibility for the victim's injuries and medical needs, and staff refused to return his calls for help. Ikea's unjust attitude did not sit well with friends of the victim. They noticed that Ikea's restaurant was using their own brand of chairs that were falling apart and breaking into pieces. Broken furniture such as this pose a serious health risk to Ikea shoppers, most notably children and pregnant women who could easily miscarriage. A fall to the concrete floor from that height could easily result in death. Ikea's blatant disregard for customer safety has been well documented with video and photos for over two years. The initial photos were put on a website in hopes of forcing Ikea to stop their selfish acts of gross negligence. Ikea employees were told about the stools and the website. In what seemed like personal retribution of the local managers, they refused to stop. A local neighborhood group of shoppers were appalled by Ikea's arrogance. They channeled their frustration into motivation and started a community watchdog group. One morning the group took photos of of several broken stools. Then they called Ikea's head of risk management at their headquarters and alerted him to the website. He was apologetic and claimed that Ikea in Emeryville, California was not following Ikea's safety inspection protocol. Following the call, the group waited in the restaurant expecting to see staff start inspecting their furniture. Not only did this not happen, but the group continued photographing broken furniture weekly for two years. Whenever unsuspecting customers began using damaged chairs, they were warned to trade them with better ones. Broken chairs were set aside and sometimes even set upside-down to bring attention to the missing pieces. On numerous occasions missing bolts from the stools were found rolling around on the floor were handed to staff members, but this triggered nothing. The same goes for reporting Ikea selling expired food. |

| IKEA Emeryville uses their own brand of bar stool in their restaurant. A group of concerned customers reported that dozens of stools have loose screws, five of which were missing screws all together. Ikea has refused to stop using broken furniture. Are they cheap and stupid? |
